Let's add all of them together to get the molar mass of the compound/molecule! Do it yourself for water and amphetamine, you will need it in the next step! 3. So in this case: 32.07 g/mol for Sulfur, 204.38 g/mol for Thallium, and so on until we get to 226.03 g/mol for Radium. The numbers below the names of the elements are the average atomic masses, but in this case, we only have one of each, so there are no numbers in the compound formula. Let's do this one for the ST(i)UDySmArTeR(a) molecule (hint: look at the figure above). Get the atomic masses from the periodic table. Similarly, amphetamine, an organic compound, has the chemical formula C9H13N meaning it has 9 C, 13 H and 1 N atom. Water has the chemical formula H2O which means it has 2 H atoms and 1 O atom. Count the number of atoms of each element which make up the compound/molecule. If you repeat these steps ,you will always be able to calculate the correct molar mass, no matter how complicated your compound is. I will first give you a list of steps (kind of like an algorithm for a computer) to get to the final molar mass. How do you calculate the molar mass of a compound?Ĭalculating the molar mass of a compound is pretty straightforward, but I won't write it in the form of an equation (yet) because that makes it unnecessarily complicated and scary for most students. The molar mass of a compound can be found on the periodic table, usually under the name of the element. For example, the molar mass of iron (II) chloride (FeCl2) is calculated by multiplying the atomic mass of iron (56 g/mol) by the number of atoms of iron (1), and then multiplying the atomic mass of chlorine (35.5 g/mol) by the number of atoms of chlorine (2). It is calculated by multiplying the atomic mass of each element in the compound by the number of atoms of that element in the compound, and then adding the results together. Molar mass is the ratio of the mass of a molecule compared to the unified atomic mass unit. Recap: The periodic table with molar masses "Moles and Molar Mass" and "Avogadro's Number and the Mole" are both great places to start. We have articles on our site that can help you understand the basics before we get into calculating. For now, you can use the terms interchangeably. But, if we ever do chemistry on other planets or in space, we will use atomic mass. When we do chemistry on Earth, we use atomic weight. Atomic weight is what you would measure for the atomic mass near (or on the surface of) a heavy object. The units for both measures are atomic mass units.Ītomic mass is defined as the rest mass of an atom, usually expressed in atomic units. This helps you figure out the molecular mass by adding up the atomic masses. So, you use something called atomic mass to calculate how much they weigh. You face a similar problem every day - you need to know how many atoms you need, but counting them out one by one is impossible. In this case, it would be 10 kilograms of sand per batch of cement. Then you can calculate the total weight of sand you need. That means each grain is 1/10th of a milligram. Let's say you find out that each grain of sand weighs 10 milligrams. To figure out how much sand you need, you can measure the weight of an average grain of sand by weighing 100 of them on a scale. Have you ever been given a task with a really specific requirement? Like, for instance, at a construction site, where the engineer says you need to use 100 million grains of sand for every batch of cement mixed? You might think you need to sit there and count out every grain of sand, but there's a better way to do things.

Now onto my second recommendation: maybe you don't always need to keep an eye on your PC's every electrical action. That is a bit of an all-in-one open RGB control app that not only simplifies the many apps you have to install and keep up-to-date, but also allows you to then ditch the proprietary monitoring software for something simpler. Though you might find you can get the same functionality from third-party tools such as OpenRGB. So sometimes you're a bit stuck with one of them.Įven I'm stuck with a few of them and I'm not all that pleased about it. Those added extras are normally always to do with proprietary lighting or features on the manufacturers products that you might not be able to control easily elsewhere. There are tons to choose from, every manufacturer has one, basically, but they all achieve something along the lines of system monitoring with a few added extras along the way. Though what I've never been a fan of are the all-in-one manufacturer specific system monitoring tools, and that's why you won't find me recommending any here today. HWMonitor is fast, simple, logs all the information you could need out of it, and keeps track of every PC vital stat you could reasonably be after. That helps when you're doing some actively to the system and wish to monitor the impact those changes have in real-time. While it's effectively more of the same by way of monitoring, the handy GPU overclocking tools and live graph presentation really aid in easily understanding the monitoring data presented to you over time. I'd also like to give an honourable mention to the old hand that is MSI's Afterburner software. The built-in tools Performance tab offers a lot of data nowadays without the need for any third-party tools, and it'll even report your graphics card's temperature. However, for businesses in need of a hardware monitoring tool, the SolarWinds Server and Application Monitor and the Paessler PRTG Network Monitor are considered to be among the best options available.įor users who want to monitor the performance of their normal PC, some of the best hardware monitoring tools to download are Open Hardware Monitor, HWMonitor, and HWiNFO.Another system monitoring tool worth mentioning, and in keeping with the spirit of minimal fuss, is Windows' own Task Manager. The choice of the best PC monitoring tool varies for each user depending on their specific requirements. What are the best PC monitoring tools to download on Windows PC? Some tools may offer a free trial period or a free version with limited features. Price: Consider the price of the tool and whether it fits within your budget.Support: Check if the tool comes with support, such as a user manual or online forums where you can ask questions and get help.Customization: Look for a tool that allows you to customize alerts and notifications based on your preferences.Resource Usage: Check that the tool does not consume too many system resources, as this can impact your PC’s performance.Ease of Use: The tool should be easy to install and use, with a user-friendly interface. For example, if you are a gamer, you may want a tool that can monitor your GPU and display frame rates. Also, this controller can be used with a PC. Otherwise the home button works exactly as it should. It is a small thing, but worth noting since I usually use my DualShock 3 to turn my PlayStation 3 on. One other thing to note for those new to third party wireless controllers, the Home button on these controllers does not turn the system on. Having the dongle and the charge cable plugged in can ruin the PS3’s USB port real estate, especially if you use two or more of these controllers, and so while they make a nice supplement to an existing supply of DualShock 3 controllers, I’m not sure how popular they will be for people with sharp local multiplayer demands. There is a dongle included with the controller that plugs into the PlayStation 3. I was able to play for a solid ten hours before it needed charging again. Overall it means the controller is lighter than some of its rivals, and if you need to plug it in to play and charge, you can use a cable to do so. This is a wireless controller, and it relies on an internal lightweight battery as opposed to using AA’s like I have seen in some other thir party PS3 controllers. They never failed to work, but I was often left wondering whether the next time I pressed the button they would stop working. The face buttons, however, are less ‘springy’ than I am used to in a controller. These are pretty comfortable, and with the analogue sticks feel really well-constructed. They’re still accurate, but they just do not move quite as well as I would like.Įlsewhere the R2 and L2 triggers are elongated, making them more curved and like an actual trigger than is typical of PlayStation 3 controllers. All in all, the stick design is really good, so it is a little disappointing that they are looser than I would like. My thumbs set in on top of the sticks better here than in many other controllers, with the added bonus that here the sticks are also rubberised (which is a stark contrast to the more plastic Rock Candy controller I recently reviewed). Sticking with the analogue stick conversation, the sticks are concave (again, I prefer this to the slightly rounded DualShock 3 and its convex sticks). I have never had much of a preference for that left analogue stick’s placement, but for those that do, this is a nice alternative on the PlayStation 3. The left one is further up and to the left, with the directional pad taking its place – just like an Xbox controller. Not ideal, though it worked well for my daughter and wife.Įven more unique for PlayStation controllers is that with this thing the analogue sticks are not evenly aligned. I have fairly large hands and the traditional PlayStation 3 DualShock controller feels almost too small to begin with, and this Afterglow controller feels even smaller. The most immediately notable thing was just how small the controller felt in my hands. But of course that would be for naught if the controller sucked. So, let’s take a look at another glowy peripheral! The PS3 Afterglow Wireless Controller has a glow that can be turned off, but as I usually play in a pretty dark room, the effect is a cool one. We have recently had a look at a couple of different Afterglow headsets, with the company’s primary gimmick being that the hardware is built with an internal glow. Need access to one? To appropriately treat and manage survivors of CSA, it is useful to understand that survivors' symptoms or behavioral sequelae often represent coping strategies employed in response to abnormal, traumatic events. Intolerance of or constant search for intimacyĪlthough there is no single syndrome that is universally present in adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse, there is an extensive body of research that documents adverse short- and long-term effects of such abuse.Poor adherence to medical recommendations.Psychologic and Behavioral Presentations.Common Symptoms in Adult Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse: Of this number, 22% were younger than 12 years and 32% were between 12 and 17 years old when they were first raped (9). A national telephone survey on violence against women conducted by the National Institute of Justice and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that 18% of 8,000 women surveyed had experienced a completed or attempted rape at some time in their lives. Approximately 40% of the women surveyed in a primary care setting had experienced some form of childhood sexual contact of those, 1 in 6 had been raped as a child (12). Of all the girls who experienced sexual abuse, 65% reported the abuse occurred more than once, 57% reported the abuser was a family member, and 53% reported the abuse occurred at home (11). Twelve percent of girls in grades 9 through 12 reported they had been sexually abused 7% of girls in grades 5 through 8 also reported sexual abuse. Consistent with this range, studies have revealed that: Among girls who had sex before they were 13 years old, 22% reported that first sex was nonvoluntary (10). Most studies have found that among women, approximately 20% - or 1 in 5 - have experienced childhood sexual abuse (9). Current estimates of incest and other childhood sexual abuse range from 12% to 40% depending on settings and population. Researchers have found that victims come from all cultural, racial, and economic groups (9). However, in the past 25 years there has been increased recognition that incest and other forms of childhood sexual abuse occur with alarming frequency (8). Incest was once thought to be so rare that its occurrence was inconsequential. Because of the shame and stigma associated with abuse, many victims never disclose such experiences. Prevalence The prevalence of childhood sexual abuse in the United States is unknown. Definitions have been expanded to include noncontact events such as coercion to watch sexual acts or posing in child pornography (7). Although specific legal definitions may vary among states, there is widespread agreement that abusive sexual contact can include breast and genital fondling, oral and anal sex, and vaginal intercourse. Characteristics and motivations of perpetrators of childhood sexual abuse vary: some may act out sexually to exert dominance over another individual others may initiate the abuse for their own sexual gratification (5, 6). Authority and power enable the perpetrator to coerce the child into compliance. These acts do not always involve sexual intercourse or physical force rather, they involve manipulation and trickery. Definitions Childhood sexual abuse can be defined as any exposure to sexual acts imposed on children who inherently lack the emotional, maturational, and cognitive development to understand or to consent to such acts.
